in English, explaining how important young people are to a revolutionary party, condemning Stalinism, stating that increasing one's political expertise is essential in assuring the future success of the Marxist movement, Coyoacan, Mexico, 24 July 1938

After Mexico had granted him asylum, Trotsky lived from 1937 in La Casa Azul in Coyoacan, a suburb of Mexico City, with the artists Diego Rivera and Freida Kahlo. While living there he had an affair with Kahlo, and eventually moved out in April 1939 due to tensions with Rivera. Trotsky was well aware that he was on Stalin's kill list. He survived one attempt on his life but in August 1940 the NKVD agent Mercader murdered Trotsky, the founder of the Red Army, with an ice pick.
