Description

King Ferdinand II of Aragon, as Regent of Castile

Legal document signed "Yo el Rey" (I, the King) as Regent of Castile, acting on behalf of his daughter Joanna I [Juana la loca],

in Spanish, authorising the town council of Granada to reclaim the revenues of the nearby town and fortress of Montefrío, countersigned by Ferdinand's secretary Lope Conchillos y Quintana, Madrid, 9 March 1510, 1 page, oblong folio, papered seal, occasional light browning

The town of Montefrío had been in the hands of the Fernández de Cordoba family since 1491, as security for a loan to Ferdinand; in 1508 it was retaken by the crown, as the current head of the family, the first marqués de Priego, did not support Ferdinand as regent of Castile and had his estates confiscated.
