A varicoloured gold-mounted guilloché enamel and nephrite paperknife, probably Fabergé, St Petersburg, circa 1900


the white opaque enamel handle mounted with yellow gold laurel wreaths and acanthus leaves, pink gold bands engraved with dot and dash details, and gold rosettes in each corner of the octagonal two-tone translucent oyster enamel pink gold bordered panel on each side, apparently unmarked

length 18cm; 7 1⁄8 in.

A comparable gold, nephrite and enamel paperknife of nearly identical design, marked for Michael Perkhin was held in the Forbes collection. For more, please see C. Forbes and R. It sold at Christie's New York, in 'Important Works of Art by Carl Fabergé from the Forbes', 19 April 2002, lot 135 for $15,535. The same comparable work most recently sold Sotheby's London, 6 June 2017, lot 314 for £15,000.
