A gold and enamel snuff box, probably Hanau, circa 1805


rectangular with cut corners, the lid inset with a contemporary Geneva enamel plaque representing a lake view with a sailing boat below opalescent sunset skies, with a village near a small river and adjacent peninsula within smart black enamel and semi-matted chased acanthus borders, the base and sides with chevron engine-turning within black frames and below enamel and gold scrollwork border, each corner with a harp-shaped ornate black enamel ornament, marks rubbed, but possibly a Hanau control mark, contemporary Viennese control mark, scratch numbers: N 139 and 112932
