A Fabergé varicoloured gold-mounted nephrite cane handle, workmaster Michael Perkhin, St Petersburg, circa 1890


of Tau-cross form, the ends engraved in gold with '14 / 1862 /Aug.' and '1892 with crowned interlaced cypher' the reeded gold base of the handle applied with a pink gold X on either side between intertwining laurel wreaths, together with cane, struck to the neck with workmaster's initials, 56 standard

width of handle 10.6 cm; 4 1/4 in.

It has been suggested that the dates on this cane handle relate to the thirtieth birthday of HRH Prince Albert William Henry of Prussia, who was born on 14 August 1862, the date engraved on this cane handle. Prince Albert was a younger brother of Emperor William II of Germany and a Prince of Prussia.
