A Fabergé silver-gilt and guilloché enamel photograph frame, workmaster Anders Nevalainen, St Petersburg, 1908-1917


of oval form, enamelled in translucent ruby red over a moiré engine-turned ground, the bezel chased and engraved with silver beading, the body of the frame surrounded by a chased leaf-tip border, the whole form surmounted by a bowtie ribbon crest, with scroll strut, the reverse with a dedication inscription to V.V. Pokrovskiy dated 1925, struck Fabergé in Cyrillic beneath the Imperial Warrant and to the strut and bezel with workmaster's initials, 84 standard

Vladimir Vladimirovich Pokrovskiy, a Bolshevik and civil servant, was a member of the Petrograd Soviet and Deputy Commissioner of Narkompros. He later served as a member of the Leningrad City Council, Chairman of the Board of the Academy of Cooperation and Chairman of the Organizational Committee of the Pedagogical Institute.
