Gérald Genta's first legendary contribution to watchmaking was the SAS Polerouter commissioned in 1954 by Universal Genève in order to commemorate the historic flight from Copenhagen to Los Angeles via the North Pole. Before leaving the brand in the mid-1960s, he also drew the present bracelet watch with day and date function. While not commercialized exactly the way he designed it, Universal Genève went on to make different examples with very similar dial layouts.
