The present painting shows a perpetual calendar watch with moon phases, enhanced by an exotic material that looks like tortoise shell. Gérald Genta often used different materials such as mother of pearl, onyx, lapis lazuli, turquoise and precious stones such as diamonds, sapphires, rubies and emeralds to enhance his creations. While not all of his designs ended up being produced, there definitely exists a skeletonized version of the present one with the bezel made of tortoise shell, which was sold by Sotheby's Geneva in May 2018 as lot 38 in the Important Watches auction GE1801.
