Gérald Genta

Bulgari is one of the most celebrated Italian luxury brands. Today, it has gained strong popularity and recognition from the horological world. Nonetheless, very little people know this all started with a certain Gérald Genta… 

Indeed, in 1975 was introduced the Bulgari Roma and two years later the Bulgari Bulgari, both of which were Genta’s creations. These watches were an immense success for many years. They remain perhaps today the most famous timepieces produced by the brand. Following these triumphs, the brand opened Bulgari Time S.A. in Neufchatel in 1982 to supply of immense demand. 

The design of the Bulgari Roma was directly inspired by the Roman roots of the brand. Its name is engraved on the bezel, the same way Roman emperors had their insignia on coins. It was the first time the name of a brand was so prominently present on a watch. The round shape of the case was used to pay tribute to the Pantheon’s marble column. 

This design held a special place in Genta’s heart, as it reminded him his Italian origin as he has always been proud of the Italian flair and style.
