Audemars Piguet launched the famous Royal Oak in the early 1970s, revolutionizing the luxury watch industry in the face of the quartz crisis. Gérald Genta designed this iconic shape, inspired by a diving-suit helmet, to feature a fully integrated bracelet: a first of its kind. Maintaining all the original lines of Genta's 1972 masterpiece, this 5402 in stainless steel and yellow gold has clearly been extremely well cared for over the years, with crisp edges.
While the first stainless steel models were divided into four alpha-numerical series from A-D, the yellow gold and two-toned versions were first launched around 1979 and were numbered simply from one. The present watch has been retained in very good condition. It is further distinguished by its rarely seen diamond-set indexes dial, adding a glamorous touch to the most celebrated sport watch ever designed.
