During the 1940s and up until the Quartz Crisis of the 1970s, an association of Swiss watchmakers produced affordable watches under the Chronograph Suisse label. Characterised by the economical use of precious material and their simple yet robust movements, some of the earlier examples of the brand add interest to any collection due to the often ignored and disregarded role they played in the history of wristwatches. Featuring a 18k pink gold case, the present lot offers further interest due to its beautiful state of conservation and its captivating patina. A pink on pink, the dial features both a tachymeter and a telemeter, in black and red respectively while the chronograph is operated by two pusher buttons at 2 and 4. Characteristically the watch has a double back case with matching numbers and the presence of different hallmarks such as the Poinçon de Maître or the Helvetia provide further interest and depth to any collection.
