An unusual gold and enamel quarter repeating cylinder watch
CIRCA 1790
• Movement: gilded, cylinder escapement, crescent shaped backplate, flat three-arm balance, balance cock capped with a diamond, hanging barrel surrounded by a single spiral gong with one repeating hammer, signed Fochtenberger à Heilbron
• Dial: white enamel with Arabic numerals, outer minute ring, aperture for winding, skeletonised gold hands, signed Fochtenberger à Heilbron
• Case: gold, the back with central engraved panel depicting birds and a pedestal with trophies of war beneath, inner cuvette with restored enamel panel depicting Bacchus and Ariadne, case back with maker's mark P•C incuse and numbered 950
