While many people would consider the Rolex Sea-Dweller a model of its own category today, it was once regarded as a subdivision of the Submariner model. Back in the 1960s, when Rolex was designing a watch to withstand the overpowering pressure and assist divers in deep water operations, Rolex took the module of the reference 5513 and incorporated a Helium Escape Valve and thus it became the original concept of the now iconic reference 1665.
The current watch is a variation of the Rolex 1665 nicknamed the Double Red Sea-Dweller “DRSD” for the two eye-catching red lines on the dial. While the DRSD was in production for approximately a decade from 1967 to 1977 it is divided into a generic 4 dial variation. The present watch is fitted with a beautifully preserved MK IV dial with a Rolex Patent case back.
As a model of great heritage, the Rolex 1665 is a reference highly respected and beloved by all watch collectors and enthusiasts.
