George Weil came to London from Vienna in WWII to study both painting and sculpture at St Martin's School of Art. He began sculpting busts of well known figures before setting up a jewellery workshop in Hatton Garden. Using the Jean Renet Gallery in London, Weil also exhibited worldwide. He created sculptural jewelry for such celebrities as Elizabeth Taylor, Frank Sinatra. In the 1960s there was a generational rejection of societal norms which led to jewellery becoming more abstract, with jewellers like Weil and Andrew Grima becoming the epitome of dynamic experimental and innovative age.
