Opal, diamond and ruby brooch, 1890s

Designed as two birds perched upon a crescent shaped branch, set with rose-cut and cushion-shaped diamonds, the bodies set with cabochon opals, the eyes accented by cabochon rubies, the reverse realistically engraved, opening to reveal four glazed compartments.
