Born in 1982, Okayama Prefecture, Japan, Hirako Yuichi is a contemporary artist based in Tokyo who’s work explores worlds where nature, plants, humans and animals exist as equals. His artistic interests developed from early childhood while discovering the surrounding world playing by himself outside in nature. He says: “Art became an expressive outlet. “Perhaps I was immersed in my art to maintain my identity”. Working in sculpture, installation, sound performance, as well as painting Hirako’s output prominently features anthropomorphic plant-headed figures and interiors overgrown with foliage.

Hirako graduated with a BFA from Wimbledon College of Arts and has exhibited in Tokyo, Taipei, Paris, Seoul, San Francisco, and other cities. Works by Hirako are in the collections of the AkzoNobel Art Foundation, and the VandenBroek Foundation.
