woodblock print, from the series Picture of Sights in Yokohama (Yokohama kenbutsu zue), signed Ichikawa Yoshikazu ga (Pictured by Ichikawa Yoshikazu), published by Joshuya Kinzo (Shofukudo), censor’s seal aratame (certified), 11^th month 1860

Vertical oban: 37.5 x 25.2 cm., 14¾ x 9¾ in.

An American gentleman stands outside a building in Yokohama. On the right is a framed bust portrait of a woman, probably his wife, and a wall clock. The inscription beside the clock reads Tokei shashin amerika (Picture of an American clock).
