Folio (419 x 279 mm). New Testament title present within decorative woodcut border, 59 line double-column black letter text, woodcut decorative initials, printed on thick paper especially to the Old Testament; wanting general title, many corners creased within the margin mostly without, leaves 5O3, 5V2, 5Y with minor marginal loss, more substantial loss to leaves 5Z 3-4 (St Paul's Epistle to Timothy), 6A, 6B 2 and 6B 3, damage to margin of final leaf. Original calf binding with central metal lozenge panel and metal corners, likely a publishers binding; overall rubbed with some loss, long tear to top of spine. 


A rare copy of the King James version of the Bible, among the most important books published in English.


Fourth distinct folio edition, printed in large black-letter. Over 50 translators and researchers worked on this version, which took over five years to prepare. Although it appropriates much from the Tyndale, Coverdale, Geneva, and Bishops' Bibles, it is regarded as the greatest literary translation of the Bible ever produced.
