2 volumes, folio (445 x 325 mm). Half-title in each volume, 40, 39, and 21 hand-colored lithographed plates by and after W.H. Fitch and James Andrews on tabs; a few plates lightly browned, some light spotting and soiling, a few tiny edge tears, longer closed tear to Plate XXXVI (Second Series), not affecting image. Full contemporary black pebble-grain cloth, covers paneled in blind; rebacked to styles, corners bumped, extremities rubbed, some tape repairs to spines where splitting. 

[With]: Select Orchidaceous Plants. [Third Series]. London: Lovell Reeve & Co., 1881. 21 (of 24?) plates (445 x 325 mm). Hand-colored lithographed plates by and after W.H. Fitch and James Andrews; spotting and browning. Original printed wrappers, all in contemporary card portfolio with cloth ties; wrappers curled with some closed tears and chips, staining to portfolio, with spine splitting with some loss.


Robert Warner was a British orchid grower at Chelmsford. He began this series because he claimed there had been no recent publication illustrating orchids "on a scale at all commensurate with their natural grandeur."
