The design number 12273 refers to a design for Class 1 (metalwork) registered by Latham & Morton, silver and electroplate manufacturers, 115 and 116 Vyse Street, Birmingham, on 3 September 1884 (National Archives, Kew, BT 51/7/12273). The original entry doesn’t specify a function for the design, which probably indicates that Latham & Morton intended only to register the pattern, which could be used for various different novelty items.
