enameled ceramic, painted wood, brass and metal

35 x 74 x 70,5 cm; 13 3/4 x 29 1/8 x 27 3/4 in.

ceramic: 69 x 48,5 x 10 cm; 27 3/16 x 19 1/16 x 3 15/16 in.

Very good overall condition.

The ceramic shows two losses, one to the right of the inner round border (about 1.5 cm long) and one near the center to the lower right side (about 3.5 cm long), and a tiny enamel loss to the right bottom edge; oxidation traces scattered on the brass. The top of the wood base has been repainted and its underside presents stains, scuffs, paint and wood lacks, all coherent with use and age. The hanging metal structure shows signs of rust and two screws missing. The transformer is original. The circular neon light is a replacement.

Thence by descent

Private collection, Italy

'A change is necessary in essence and form. We must go beyond painting, sculpture and poetry. We require an Art that is based on this new vision. The Baroque period pointed us in the right direction, it presented a grandeur in which the notion of time combined with plasticity; the figures seemed to abandon the surface and continue their movements within the space. [...] A new aesthetic is being formed: luminous shapes travel through space. Movement, color, time and space are the fundamental concepts of this new Art. In the everyday human subconscious a new conception of life is emerging; the creators are slowly but inexorably beginning the conquest of the everyday man.' (The Technical Manifesto, Lucio Fontana)
