Desk and Office Chair

circa 1955-1960

model nos. PJ-BU-19-A and PJ-SI-28-A

teak, cane, brass, leather

desk numbered YULI-X-4DR-2

desk: 28 1/2 x 46 x 30 1/2 in. (72.4 x116.8 x 77.5 cm)

chair: 31 1/4 x 20 1/2 x 19 in. (79.4 x 52.1 x 48.3 cm)

Overall in very good condition. As is common with Jeanneret designs, the wooden surfaces present with irregularities inherent to the wood selection and expected signs of age. The teak with scratches, abrasions, stable hairline cracks, edge indentations and scattered discolorations to the finish throughout consistent with gentle use, as well as occasional evidence of prior sensitive restoration and inpainting. The proper right armrest of the chair presents with an area of small wormholes to the wooden surface, which are stable and not visually distracting. The chair has been re-caned at some point in the history of the piece and the caning is in overall very good condition with some occasional and rare loose threads. The reverse of the chair bears an old paper label applied by the cane restorer. The leather tabletop appears to have been replaced at some point in the desk’s history and is in excellent overall condition with a few minor surface scratches and light wear consistent with age and gentle use.
