Description

A Louis XIV Gilt-Bronze and Brass-Mounted Tortoise Shell-Inlaid Boulle Bracket Clock, Signed Gaudron a Paris, Circa 1700 

The arched case with moulded pediment, glazed side panels, the foliate cast dial with individual white enamel Roman cartouche chapters, steel hands, signed on an enamel plaque below GAUDRON/A PARIS. 


Overall height including bracket 53 in.; width 20 in.; depth 9 in.

Antoine Gaudron was born in 1640. He became master as a clockmaker at St. Germain-des-Pres between 1660 and 1665 and then in Paris on 5th June 1675. He was established in the Place Dauphin by 1698 and served as a member of the Jurande between 1690 and 1692. He died in Paris in August of 1714.
