Vogue approached Wolfgang Tillmans to shoot a fashion editorial for their February 1997 issue. Tillmans agreed on the condition that he could pick the model. The resulting images resulted in a spread titled "China Syndrome" wherein Tillmans captured global phenomenon Kate Moss not as a polished, glamourous figure, but rather as a fresh-faced, naturally-lit muse.
