Galen Clark, Canadian-born American conservationist and writer, is shown standing at the base of the massive Grizzly Giant, the oldest sequoia in Mariposa Grove. Clark was named Guardian of Yosemite Valley and the Mariposa Grove in 1866. This view is one of the thirty selected by Watkins in April 1863 for the first publicly issued set of mammoth prints made from his 1861 set.
