A set of four George III silver entree dishes, Paul Storr, London, 1796


Oval, with gadrooned borders, the cast handles formed as crests, engraved with arms,

32cm., 12 ½in. long

4414gr., 141 ½oz.

The arms are those of Watson impaling Copley quartering Moyle for Sir Charles Watson, 1st Bt. of Fulmer (9 June 1751 – 26 August 1844), son of Vice Admiral Charles Watson (1714-1757) and his wife, Rebecca (1718-1800), daughter of Sir John Francis Buller of Morval, Cornwall (1695-1751). He was married on 16 July 1789 to Juliana Copley (1768?-1834).


‘[Died] On Monday, at Wratting Park, Cambridgeshire, Sir Charles Watson, Bart, in the 94th year of his age. This gentleman was created a baronet at eight years old, by George II., on account of his father’s (Admiral Watson) services, who died of a fever at Calcutta, whilst in command of the naval forces in India.’ (The Leeds Times, Leeds, Saturday, 31 August 1844, p. 8e)
