An Impressive and Rare Pair of Chinese Famille-Rose 'Soldier' Vases and Covers, Qing Dynasty, Qianlong Period, Circa 1740

清乾隆 約1740年 粉彩花卉庭院圖大蓋瓶一對


each of baluster form, the rounded shoulders sweeping to a waisted neck and a galleried rim, the body extending down to a slightly flared base, superbly painted with bright enamels with peonies, chrysanthemums and prunus issuing from rockwork, the shoulder painted with gilt and iron-red peony blooms on a diaper ground, the neck reserved with four floral panels, the domed covers similarly surmounted with lotus bud-form finials, the French Régence style giltwood stands probably supplied by Duveen Brothers
