The crest and monogram are those of Poynder for John and his wife Mary of Montague Place, Russell Square, London, 1st Baron Islington, 1866-1936, politician and Governor of New Zealand . His uncle, Thomas Poynder Jr. was Treasurer of Christ’s Hospital 1824-35 and responsible for architectural improvements. The key on his crest was added as an acknowledgement of this position.
