A Commonwealth Silver Large Caudle Cup and Cover, Maker's Mark HN Bird with Branch Below, Probably for Henry Noyes (Jackson 1989, p. 122), London, 1659
the bombé body boldly embossed and chased with three standing birds among large flowers, caryatid scroll handles, the reversible low domed cover chased to match with three smaller birds among flowers, flat reel-shaped finial, the body and cover engraved with a late 18th century script monogram DAD, fully marked on base and cover, the finial also with lion passant

David M. Mitchell has identified this mark as probably that of Henry Noyes, son of William Noyes of Wilcot, Wiltshire, apprenticed to Edward South from Christmas 1632, free in 1640. He took 6 apprentices between 1652 and 1662 and was involved with the affairs of the Goldsmiths’ Company, signing the “Petition to Parliament of divers members against the present Company” in 1652, and was one of forty volunteers to attend the Mayoral Feast of Thomas Vyner in 1653.
