The earliest known locking mechanism is first attributed to the Han dynasty. The current examples are more advanced and intricate than their predecessors. See a similar Tang example from the Palace Museum Collection, illustrated in The Complete Collection of Treasures in the Palace Museum: Bronze Articles for Daily Use, Hong Kong, 2006, pl. 184.

北京故宮博物院藏一類例,載於《故宮博物院藏文物珍品全集:青銅生活器》,香港,2006年,圖版184。該書編者指出中國現存最早的鎖具可追溯至漢代。
