Alexander Tartagnus

Royal folio (399 x 283mm.), 28 leaves (of 34), a8 b-d6 e-f4, 60 lines, gothic type, woodcut printer's device at end, modern vellum boards with single gilt fillet border, lacking 6 leaves (a1, a4-a5, c3-c4, f4)
A crisp and wide-margined copy of this uncommon legal work printed in Lucca by Henricus de Harlem, who was active in several towns across northern Italy in the 1490s; for a Sienese imprint of his, see lot 68). Tegrimi, from Lucca, had studied law in Siena under Bartolomeo Sozzini, to whom this edition is dedicated, and then in Bologna under Tartagnini. He was also the author of a biography of Castruccio Castracani (see lot 227).
