A South Arabian Alabaster Head of a Woman
Qataban, 3rd Century B.C./1st Century A.D.
with long tapering neck, high cheekbones, large eyes recessed for inlay, grooved eyebrows, and long coiffure.
Height 23 cm.
probably from Hayd ibn 'Aqil, the necropolis of ancient Timna'
Donald Brian Doe (1920-2005), archaeologist and first director of the Department of Antiquities for the Aden Protectorate
Joan Young (b. 1930, Nottinghamshire), assistant to the above, received from him as a gift upon her departure from Aden in 1967
by descent to the current owner
