Bichrome Cypro-Archaic vases are more common in a rounded amphora shape, such as an example in the Metropolitan Museum of Art (acc. no. 74.51.727), than in the wider ovoid shape of this jar. However, see Christie’s, New York, April 23rd, 2013, A Palladian Villa by Michael S Smith, no. 357, illus. and Bonhams, London, July 23rd, 2020, no. 5, illus., for similar. The painted pattern, including extensions to the black paint below the handles, is characteristic of the period.
