each base with a six-character mark within a double circle in underglaze blue (2)

This extremely rare pair of doucai bowls is based on Chenghua period prototypes, such as a cup illustrated in the exhibition catalogue A Legacy of Chenghua, The Tsui Museum of Art, Hong Kong, 1993, cat. no. C95. Compare also a Yongzheng mark and period vase of a similar design and inspiration included in the exhibition Art of the Ming and Qing Dynasties, Osaka Municipal Museum, Osaka, 1980, cat. no. 163; later sold at Christie's Hong Kong, 30th May 2010, lot 1882.
