'Yosemite Falls and Yosemite Point'

gelatin silver print, mounted to Crescent illustration board, signed in ink on the mount, the photographer's studio stamps (BMFA 2 and 6), titled and annotated '1 Y 746' in ink, on the reverse, framed, 1932, probably printed between 1962 and 1963

image: 10¾ by 13½ in. (27.3 by 34.3 cm.)

frame: 20¾ by 22¾ in. (52.7 by 57.8 cm.)

Please note the colors and shades in the online catalogue illustration may vary depending on screen settings.

This print is in generally very good condition. The following are visible under close examination in raking light: scattered deposits of original retouching; scuffs in the right portion of the image that appear somewhat glossy; possibly glass offsetting; and a tiny impression in the upper left quadrant that appears to break the emulsion.

The mount is age-darkened and soiled along the edges. The corners are bumped.

On the reverse of the mount are abrasions along the upper edge, some discoloration and soiling along the edges, and remnants of adhesive along the lower center edge. The following are written in unidentified hands in pencil: '5-0 [canceled]'; '5-02'; and 'AA/2282.'

Karen Haas's and Rebecca Senf's book, 'Ansel Adams in the Lane Collection,' publishes the most comprehensive list to date of the studio stamps and labels Adams used throughout his career. Our dating of this print is based upon the authors' assessment of the use dates of stamps 2 and 6 on the reverse of the mount; while stamp 2 was used broadly from about 1930 to 1960, stamp 6 was primarily used from about 1962 to 1963.
