Henri Weigele

Born in Schierbach, Haut-Rhin, Weigele studied sculpture under Jules Franceschi (1825-1893) in Paris. He became a member of the Sociétaire des Artistes Français in 1902 and subsequently exhibited at the Salon. Weigele is acclaimed for his marble sculptures of female figures, and he won an honourable mention at the Salon in 1893.

This deeply sensual female nude recalls the fin-de-siècle masterpiece La Grande Névrose by Jacques Loysel, which was shown at the Salon in 1896 and sold in these rooms on 16 February 2017 for £1.9 million.
