Shibayama Box and Cover

inlaid mother-of-pearl, stained ivory and ebony

decorated with a profusion of flowers and foliage, including hydrangea and chrysanthemums and cherry blossoms

5 by 12.5 by 9.5cm., 2 by 4⅞ by 3⅝in.

The box with some light surface marks to the cut mother-of-pearl, the wood interiors and base with minor scratches consistent with age and use of object.

This lot contains ivory. Due to recent changes in the laws of many countries (e.g. US, France) Sotheby's recommends that buyers check with their own government regarding any importation requirements prior to placing a bid.
