Ref. 3 was named after 1934 when Patek Philippe started to use the reference number system. It was then already produced for more than 15 years before the reference was given. Most of the watches were made between 1917 and 1927 so the present lot is one of the really first ref. 3 ever manufactured. The exact number of watches is unknown but research shows that a bit more than 100 pieces in total were made and that around 25 of them are today identified from the market.

Early tonneau curved Patek Philippe watches are a true icon for any collector and ref. 3 is one of the earliest wristwatches ever produced by the brand.
