FIRST EDITION, oblong folio (246 x 360mm.), dedication and preliminary text leaf in Japanese, 58 numbered photographic plates with printed captions in English and Japanese, contemporary maroon cloth, upper cover titled in gilt, original pictorial upper wrapper with title in Japanese and English bound in, holes in upper wrapper, title and extending to first 20 plates (title to plate 5 with old repair), scattered spotting and dust-staining, a little edge fraying, binding rubbed
A SCARCE PHOTOBOOK showing images taken in the aftermath of the Boxer Uprising by the Japanese photographer Sanshichiro Yamamoto. 'This album contains views of imperial palaces and sights of Peking, and also numerous photographs of foreign detachments and encampments, in and around the Forbidden City, plus manoeuvres outside the city walls of Peking; some photographs represent military personnel' (Western Travellers in China).
