These elegant chairs appear to have been scraped back to the original painted surface. The cane seats later and rear seat rail possibly replaced. Losses to what appears to be original surface, paint and wear to gilding. Some of the gilded highlights – such as the lozenges – are probably later applied. Some chips to carved detail. Silk fabric tired and marked in places. Scuffs and scratches throughout with areas of exposed timber and under paint. Historic worm.
