This vigorously modelled figure shows a compositional and stylistic affinity with the monumental statue of Hercules with the Erymanthian Boar (circa 1768-1770) by the prominent Flemish court sculptor, Laurent Delvaux. Perhaps inspired by Delvaux's marble, which is housed in the Prince's Palace in Brussels, the present terracotta is likely to have served as a model for a larger statue in marble.
