The skyline visible in the background of this work bears some similarity to that of Dordrecht, particular in the form of the tower, which resembles that of the Grote Kerk. It is probably for this reason that the painting was formerly attributed to Aelbert Cuyp, who spent his career in that city, and within an extensive oeuvre produced a small number of works depicting a similar subject, such as the hunting scene in the Gemäldegalerie, Berlin (inv. no. 861K).1
