The following condition report has been provided by Hamish Deward Ltd.

Structural Condition

The artist's panel support appears to be made up of three sections of timber. There is a horizontal join running through the rocks and the sea in the upper part of the composition with a corresponding very fine line of craquelure and what appears to be a further horizontal join with a corresponding line of craquelre running above the lower edge. These are stable. The join running through the upper part of the composition is clearly visible on the reverse of the support. What appears to be a join above the lower edge is obscured by brown paper gum tape on the reverse. The reverse of the support is inscribed by the artist.

Paint Surface

The paint surface has the artist's original unvarnished appearance. A very minor paint loss is situated above the left part of the lower edge.

The paint surface displays scattered very fine horizontal lines of craquelure. These appear stable. I could find no evidence of any retouching under ultraviolet light.

The painting would therefore appear to be in very good and stable condition.
