This serie of photographs was taken during the 1977 performance by Marina Abramović and Ulay at the Musée d’Art et d’Histoire in Geneva. Part of the Relation Works series, they belong to one of the most important periods of Marina Abramović’s oeuvre.
In this performance, an over-sized mirror separates the two artists. Standing nude on either side, Marina Abramović and Ulay are not able to see or touch one another. The only link between them is the reflection in the mirror, suggesting a symbiotic relationship between the two bodies.
The set comes directly from the collection of Marika Malacorda, an avant-garde gallerist from Geneva and early supporter of the artists.
