8vo (220 x 145 mm). Half title, signed by Roosevelt ("Franklin Roosevelt") on title. Original blue cloth, central device to upper board in blind, spine gilt-lettered, inscribed by Roosevelt on the front free endpaper; very minor rubbing to extremities, light offsetting to endsheet gutters. Original cream jacket pictorially printed in blue; chips and tears with loss. In custom slipcase and folding chemise.
First edition of the future President's first book — presentation copy. Inscribed by Roosevelt on the occasion of publication: "For my son Elliott Roosevelt | This copy of his Dad's first book | Franklin D. Roosevelt| June 1926."
The present title reprints a lecture given for the benefit of the Alumni War Memorial Foundation at Milton Academy, and is inscribed to Elliott Roosevelt. Elliott was the fourth of Roosevelt's six children, and Eleanor's acknowledged favorite. His career included military service, and stints as an author, rancher, radio station owner, and Mayor of Miami Beach.
Twice signed by Roosevelt — a personal and desirable presentation copy.
