An English black shagreen necessaire with gold mounts, circa 1760
of tapering form with rounded sides, all faces with inlaid ornaments in pique, reeded gold mounts, hinged lid, small gold pushpiece, the interior with a fitted compartment containing gold scissors with steel blades, ivory writing slips, a steel compass, a file and tweezers, a bodkin, a gold ear spoon, a pencil with silver-topped gold cap, folding knife with piqué inlaid tortoiseshell handle and steel blade
