maker's mark A, possibly for John Ashmore, London, 1577


on domed stepped circular base with die-struck ovolo border, the flared beaker-shaped bowl engraved with a band of shaded scrolling foliage within plain strapwork, the underside of the foot and the paten engraved with the initials 'LM', together with another paten, maker's mark only twice on rim, possibly N, the centre engraved with a fivefold symmetric sand dollar motif within a circle
