gilt and polychromed limewood

28 by 30 ¾ in., 71.4 by 78.4 cm.

General surface abrasions, some small losses and some restorations and refreshed paint throughout. Some age cracks which are particularly visible through the Virgin’s blanket and through the laps of the figures seated on the bottom left and right. Delicate fill to two age cracks. 


Only a few hands and fingers restored, including those of the figures holding the bucket and the candle (which have small restorations). Delicate fill to two small cracks in face of bearded figure on upper left in back. Small restorations to incense burner and lower right-hand of figure holding incense burner is replaced. Loss to part of Virgin’s veil and implement in her hand (see catalogue image). Restorations from worming on underside.

Architectural surround is somewhat later. Exceptional, detailed carving and otherwise very good condition.
