This portrait has in the past been attributed to Nicolas Eliasz. Pickenoy (1588-1650/1656), based on the particularly refined treatment of the hands and costume, as well as the model’s pose. The modelling of the face, however, now seems more suggestive of an especially talented follower, known as the Master of the Hinlopen Portraits.
This artist seems to have been active in the town of Hoorn between 1620 and 1630, but it has never proved possible to identify him with one of the known portrait painters of the period. His corpus currently consists of three portraits of the Hinlopen family in the Rijksmuseum, Amsterdam, which are dated 1631 (inv. nos. SK-A-1312, SK-A-1313 and SK-A-1319).

Le traitement particulièrement fin des mains et de la robe, ainsi que la pose du modèle, ont valu à ce portrait une attribution à Nicolas Eliasz. Pickenoy (1588-1650/1656). Le modelé du visage semble toutefois aujourd’hui laisser penser plutôt à l’un de ses suiveurs particulièrement talentueux, baptisé Maître des Portraits Hinlopen.
Cet artiste aurait travaillé dans la ville de Hoorn dans les années 1620-1630, sans pouvoir être identifié à l’un des portraitistes connus de cette époque. Son corpus compte à ce jour trois portraits de la famille Hinlopen, conservés au Rijksmuseum à Amsterdam et datés de 1631 (inv. n°SK-A-1312, SK-A-1313 et SK-A-1319).
