Overall the piece is in good appearance. The applied decoration crisp and vibrant. Minor losses to applied decoration, principally the two bulrushes missing parts of stems. A fern leaf and a shell chipped. An element possibly missing from top edge of a fern leaf.

François Maurice was a contemporary of Thomas-Victor Sergent and had a workshop at 20 rue de Basselins, Paris. He included his pottery works in the Paris Exposition Universelle in 1889.
